EAST
PARKING LOT AT COURTHOUSE August, 2017 Our East Parking Lot has needed substantial repair for quite a while. With the help of the voters passing our sales tax increase in April, we are now in a position to start meeting some of our building and property needs in order to maintain the courthouse property. Our West Parking lot was repaved 10 years ago and it has held up very nicely and is in very good shape. The East Parking lot has not been repaved for many years and is filled with pot holes and cracks that are starting to be unsafe. We plan to pattern the East parking lot after the West Parking lot. Therefore, the new lot will be all concrete. We will do away with the zig-zag spaces on the East with a straight curb on each side. Most importantly, the spaces on the East will be 10 feet wide like the spaces on the West side, instead of the 8 feet width they are now. Many people do not want to use these smaller spaces because of the likelihood of banging their doors on other cars. Although this will lower the number of spaces by just a few spaces, we believe it will increase the number of useable spaces.
The contract was awarded August 15th to the lowest of five bidders - JD Bishop Construction, a local contractor - for $103,944. Construction on the parking lot is expected to be started September 5 and hopefully be completed by September 15th. After the east lot is repaved, we plan to reseal all the joints and any cracks on the West parking lot. This process on the West side should take just a few days. |
